Our take

Choosing a Christmas tree farm near Dallas–Fort Worth

The choose-and-cut farms near Dallas–Fort Worth are out in the countryside, mostly 45 minutes to an hour and a half from the city. In Fort Worth's direction they are in Crowley, Alvarado and Cleburne. East and north of Dallas they are in Greenville, Caddo Mills, Canton, Denison and up toward the Red River. Plan the trip as a morning or afternoon out rather than a quick errand. Many of these farms sell out of their field-grown trees early in December.

Opening weekend matters here

Several farms open only on Thanksgiving weekend and some stay open only on Fridays to Sundays. Bois D'Arc closes to walk-ins after December 13, and Sunset Hill warns that its small field often sells out on the first weekend. Kadee Farm and KaJiN open a week earlier, on November 21. If cutting your own tree matters to you, go before mid-December.

What it costs

Two farms publish real numbers. At Haynie's Green Acres in Crowley, pre-cut firs start at $124.99 for 6 to 8 feet and tabletop trees at $49.99. Entry, parking, shaking, netting and the weekend hayrides are all free. At Bois D'Arc every cut tree is tagged at $120 to $400 with tax included. The other farms had not posted 2026 prices when we checked, so call ahead if you are on a budget.

Which farm suits you

  • Closest to Fort Worth, and dog-friendly: Haynie's Green Acres, about 20 minutes south of downtown.
  • Tree and lights in one evening: Kadee Farm stays open until 8 pm and runs a $10 Trail of Lights.
  • Santa: KaJiN has Santa every weekend and a $5 breakfast with Santa on Saturdays.
  • A big day out: Yesterland Farm in Canton, with lights, rides and pre-cut Fraser firs. Note that it does not offer cut-your-own.
