Our method
How We Verify Listings
Seasonal outings change every year. A farm opens a week later, a market moves to a new venue, a light show raises its prices. A list is only useful if those details are current, so every listing on Farms & Fairs goes through the same checks before we publish it.
What we check on every listing
- It exists and is still running. The place or event must have an active official website or social page, or a current listing from the organizer.
- This season's dates, hours and prices. We take them from the organizer's own announcement whenever one exists.
- The practical details families ask about: free entry, dogs, parking, restrooms, food, reservations and cash-only payments.
- The location. Each listing is pinned on the map from its street address.
Where the facts come from
In order of preference, we use:
- The farm's or organizer's official website or social page.
- Official bodies such as state growers' associations, tourism offices and venue calendars.
- Established local media and event listings, only when nothing official has been posted yet.
Every listing shows a source link and the date we last checked it, so you can always see where a fact came from.
When the dates aren't confirmed yet
Many organizers announce dates late. We never guess and present a guess as fact:
- If the organizer has not posted this year's dates, the listing says so ("2026 dates not posted yet"). Any hours or prices we show are clearly labelled as last season's.
- If the dates come only from an event listing and not from the organizer, the event is marked dates not confirmed and shown in a lighter style until the organizer confirms them.
How listings are chosen and ordered
We list places and events that families can actually visit, whether or not they pay us anything. Basic listings are free. Businesses can pay to be featured; featured listings are always labelled, and payment never changes the facts we publish.
Keeping it current
We recheck listings before each season starts and update them as organizers announce changes. A listing that hasn't been checked for the current season says so.
Found a mistake?
Use the correction link on any listing or our correction form. We read every report, and when we confirm a change we update the listing and its "last checked" date. Read more about our editorial standards or who we are.
